On our way back to our Orietal hotel, we passed by The Leyte Landing Memorial which marks the spot where American liberation forces of General McArthur landed.

 On October 20, 1944, General Douglas MacArthur made his promise to return to the Philippines to help the country fight against the Japanese colonizers. This was where the phrase “I shall return” came from. The landing of General MacArthur in the Philippines is one of the most significant historical events in the country.
